Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus : Hippos are also known as the hippopotamuses and these are the huge, water-loving animals that are native to Africa, these are the most stunning water creatures that one should ever see on a Kenya safari and they are commonly  the hippos are mostly found in Kenya especially  in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Tsavo national parks especially in the Tsavo’s permanent rivers, Athi and the Tsavo rivers, Lake Naivasha, Meru National Park and many places  the hippos are well known as the semi-acquatic, inhabiting rivers, lakes and also in the mangrove swamps, but the hippo bulls do preside over the stretch of river and always in the groups of 5 to 30 females and young, not only that the hippos also as stay in the mud or water during the day. The hippopotamus is the third largest land mammal after the rhino and the elephant with its amazing creation.

Hippopotamuses are so unique species in that they do not sweat in fact the species rely on the mud and water to cool their temperatures always and that’s why they keep themselves in the water for a long, like other related animal species do sweat to cool themselves, the hippos do secrete a viscous red fluid, that protects the hippos skin against the sun and possibly also acts as their healing agents to keep them comfortable, Hippopotamus.

The hippos do survive in water for a long because their eyes, nose and the ears are located on the top of their head, which means they can see and also breathe whilst submerged in the water, the hippos do sweat their oily red liquid that helps them to protect their skin from drying out and also acts as sun protectors.

The colour of the hippos milk.

The colour of the hippos milk is pink though others believe that it is like the normal white colour of the normal milk of other animal species, the following are the descriptions about the hippos milk.

The milk produced by the female hippos is so unique and attractive for a tourist on a Kenya wildlife safari to see, that is pink in colour which is not a case in other species, the milk of the hippos is pink because of the two distinct kinds of the acids that are produced by the hippos, and these acids are called the norhipposudoric acid and the hipposudoric acid that’s to why it is pink.  Then the former is orange in colour, while the latter is red and also called the blood sweat, it is quite likely that the fluid accidently mixed with the feeding baby hippo’s milk and everyone thought that the hippo’s milk was pink. The milk produced from the hippo’s mammary glands is called the hippos milk.

Norhipposudoric acid and the hipposudoric acid are strong enough to reduce the growth of the bacteria on the hippo’s skin, these acids also acts as the sunscreen for the hippos skin as they absorb the UV rays that destroy the skin cells, while in the milking the hippo, these two acids get combined with the white milk and later results into the pink coloured milk is ejected, so that’s how the light  pink colour of the hippo milk comes on, like any other mammals milk being white that’s the original colour of the hippos milk can be but later because of those acids they do change it to be become light  pink.

The hippos give birth to their babies underwater on the 8th month gestation period, and after being born the baby swims upward to catch the air, the actual sense the first thing the hippos baby is born the first thing it has to learn is swimming and it can be weighing 40 kilograms.

As the mother hippos do eject the milk below the surface of the water to feed the baby, also the baby takes a deep breath, close their eyes and nostrils and then eventually tightly wrap their tongue around one of the two teats that are located between the mother’s hind legs and suckle, the baby hippos then start feeding by taking the grass at 3 weeks, and weaned at around 8 months, the female hippos reach reproductive at the age of 5 to 6 years.

The hippos milk on the other hand would have been taken by the human beings, but due to the fact that the hippo is dangerous to everyone and most of the people are always killed by the hippos so even if you keep a hippo as a pet still it can be dangerous to you, though it is said that some people have consumed the hippos meat since the ancient times that means some also went ahead and tasted the milk  that is some people say that the hippos milk taste like the cow’s milk, or the watermelon juice and others go ahead saying that it tastes like the tangy, thick yoghurt. Hippos milk is quite dense, with one having as much as 500 calories and since the hippo baby’s need a lot of the calories so they grow so fast because of the milk is so nutrious, Hippopotamus.

So with the added and a combination of the several flavors of the hippos milk with added proteins, its recommended as the safe milk because it is delicious and nutrious at the same time, but due to the fact that the hippos are aggressive it may not be any time soon before you enjoy its milk. Milking the hippos you can follow various videos and learn how to milk the hippos, and if it happens and you milk it the females are always amazed and calm because they remain calm and quiet when something is milking it.
