Weather & Climate of Masai Mara

The weather & climate of the Masai Mara and East Africa are almost the same. However, destinations near the equator experience cooler and wetter conditions than places farther away from the equator, which contradicts the common human perception of the opposite in relation to the imaginary lines.

The temperatures mostly fall at night, making the nights cooler than during the daytime throughout the year. Masai Mara is located south of the equator with an altitude of around 1,500 meters to 1,900 meters.

The temperatures are always higher around October and March and lower from June to August, with the coolest times being at night when the temperatures sometimes drop below even 10 degrees Celsius.

Masai Mara

Masai Mara National Reserve has two rainy seasons, with the wettest month being April and July being the driest month.

The first rains in April and May, known as the long rains, bring a lot of rainfall, causing most of the camps to close. In contrast, the second short rains in November bring much less rain and last for a very short period of time compared to the first rains.

The most unique point of the Maasai Mara National Reserve is that the reserve does not have a really dry season; at least the park receives rainfall throughout the year, even in the so-called dry months of June to October.

Sunshine is distributed throughout the year; our guests will always enjoy the African sunshine through the sunrise game drives and sunset game drives. One can even do sunbathing at later hours or early hours of the day depending on the location of your accommodation or tent.
