Detailed itinerary of 7 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

Upon arrival in Nairobi city at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be received by your guide – a representative of Focus East Africa Tours and be transferred to your hotel in Nairobi City for dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: 67 Airport Hotel (Budget), La Maison Hotel (Midrange), Nairobi Serena Hotel (Luxury).

Day 2: Nairobi to Masai Mara

After morning breakfast, you will transfer to Masai Mara national reserve with some stopovers in the Masai Villages in Narok Town and view point for the Great Rift Valley. Arrive in the reserve in time for lunch after checking into your lodge, in the afternoon you will go for a game drive searching for the best game in the savannah plains such as Wildebeest, buffaloes, Elephants, Zebras, Rhinos, leopards, lions, Hyena among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Full day Maasai Mara

Wake up early in the morning for breakfast and transfer to the reserve for a game drive and sunrise view, during the morning game drive you will be able to see most of the nocturnal animals coming back from their hunting missions. You will see lions, African wild dogs, cheetahs, leopards as they hunt zebras and antelopes. You will see other animals starting their day, you will return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon return to the reserve heading to the Mara River where you will see the wildebeests if you visit in August – September. And other animals as they come to quench their thirst from the river. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4:Maasai Mara to Nairobi to Volcanoes

Wake up for breakfast and with en-route game drive, you will exit the reserve and embark on a journey to Nairobi, you will reach in time for lunch and then be dropped off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight to Kigali – Rwanda.

Upon arriving in Kigali, you will be picked by our guide and transfer to Volcanoes national park – a home for primates, check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 5: Gorilla trekking

You will wake up early for breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing at Kinigi Visitor Center where you will be briefed about the rules and regulations to follow on gorilla trekking. Then you will head in the jungle looking for the endangered mountain gorillas, the trekking taking approximately 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement and the location of the gorilla family you are trekking. When you find the gorillas, you will spend one hour in the presence of gorillas while taking pictures and enjoy watching their behavior. Then you will head back to the park’s headquarters where you will be rewarded with gorilla trekking certificates, then head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking

You will have breakfast early in the morning and drive to the park’s headquarters for briefing the same way it is done for the gorilla trekking, golden monkeys are rare species are only found in Virunga Mountains region that is in Volcanoes national park and Mgahinga Gorillas national park.

You will spend one hour in the presence of the golden monkeys while taking pictures and learning about their behavior, along the way you will also see other primates and birds.

Return to your lodge and spend the evening resting, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 7: Kigali to Nairobi

After breakfast, you will check out and be driven to back to Kigali, you will be dropped off either at the hotel or at Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.
