DETAILED ITINERARY OF 7 DAYS EXPLORE MGAHINGA GORILLA NATIONAL PARK SAFARI
Day 1: Arrival
On arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your safari-driver guide and transfer to your hotel in Kampala, depending on the time of arrival you will have an opportunity to tour Kampala city visiting the Gadhafi mosque, Kasubi tombs, Nakasero market among others. You will then check in your hotel, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Kisoro, Uganda – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After breakfast at your hotel you will meet your safari guide and set off on a drive transferring to Kisoro in the South western Uganda, on your way you will a stopover at the equator landmark for pictures and have another stopover in Mbarara for lunch. You will enjoy watching the local people doing their daily activities along the way and in Kisoro you enjoy scenery of thousands of terraced green hills and the peaks of Virunga volcanoes. On the arrival in the park, you will check in at your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking
Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park for the exciting mountain gorilla trekking experience, Mgahinga national park is the another habitat for mountain gorillas in Uganda and the gorillas are the prime tourist attraction in park. You will have briefing at the park’s headquarters conducted by a ranger guide taking you through the rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the giant gorillas. Then you will start the trek into the forests of Mgahinga looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes about 4-6 hours depending on where the gorillas spent the last night and the ranger guide will lead you to where to find them. You will spend one 1 hour with the gorillas marveling about their huge fur covered bodies, their behaviors including grooming tactics and watch them pick fruits and leaves they eat as food. You will also have an opportunity to take amazing pictures, later you will trek back to the park’s headquarters, meet your driver and head back to the lodge. In the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight while on Uganda Safaris.

Day 4: Golden Monkey trekking
Have early morning breakfast, meet your safari driver and transfer to briefing point for golden monkey trekking, a ranger guide will take you through the proper way of behaving while in the presence of the beautiful golden monkeys the start the trek into the forests. Mgahinga gorilla national park is one of the only few destination to find the golden monkeys which are only found in the Virunga Volcanoes.
Golden monkeys are always swift in their movements and you will follow them as they move to feed, they feed on bamboo shots and they are generally found in the bamboo vegetation. While hiking you will pass through the secondary forest and shrubs and go deeper into the forest until you reach the bamboo section where you will find them, you are allowed to stay in presence of the golden monkeys for 1 hour while listening to their sounds, watch their movements and take pictures. After you will decent back to the starting point, then head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: Walk in the footsteps of the Batwa
After breakfast, you will head to the park for a cultural experience in the batwa pygmy on what is termed as the batwa trail, as you walk on this trail you are offered a deeper insight into the lifestyle of the batwa people. The batwa are an indigenous tribe that once lived in the forests and they depended on it for livelihood since they were hunter-gatherers, however during the gazetting of the parks, they were evicted and they currently live along the boundaries of the park. you will spend a full day in the batwa community and while there, you will be entertained by locals dances and drama, witness the demonstration of hunting skill, visiting the local medicine doctors, taste locally made meals, interact with the locals and learn more about their lifestyle, culture, traditions and norms. Later in the evening you will head back to your lodge, for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Hike Sabyinyo or Muhabura or Gahinga Volcanoes
Hiking is one of the adventurous activities done in Mgahinga gorilla national park, the park is situated in the Virunga chain and it is dominated by 3 volcanoes that are Mount Gahinga (3474 meters), Mount Muhabura (4127 meters) and Mount Sabyinyo (3674 meters). All these three volcanoes a perfect for hiking expeditions and it is up to you to choose the volcano you wish to hike.
Mount Gahinga – Hiking Mount Gahinga is generally a gentle hike of approximately 6 hours taking you through the bamboo forest and marshy craters to the peak of the volcano, the lower slopes of this volcano are dominated by forests which are a habitat to various species of forest birds. The marshes near the summit host bush bucks and the elusive duiker which you will spot, Mount Gahinga is shared by Uganda and Rwanda and while at the summit you will enjoy views of Uganda and Rwanda.

Mt Muhabura – Hiking this volcano is the most challenging hike when compared to other volcanoes in the park, hiking Mount Muhabura takes approximately 8 hours while on top of the volcano you will enjoy spectacular views of Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mt Sabyinyo – this volcano offers the most dramatic hiking in Mgahinga gorilla national park of approximately 9 hours, while hiking this volcano you will reach a point on which you will use wooden stairs to get up the steep slopes. Mount Sabyinyo is shared by Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo and while at the summit you will be in 3 countries.

Day 7: Departure
Have breakfast at your leisure, checkout and embark on a journey to Kampala for a drop-off, to Kampala it is an 8 hours journey and on your way you will have en-route and when you arrive in Kampala you will be dropped off at the hotel or at Entebbe international airport for you departure flight home.
