Detailed Itinerary of 10 Days Serengeti Wildebeest Migration

Day 1: Arrival – Arusha

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha.

Day 2 – Serengeti National Park (North)

After breakfast, transfer to Arusha Airstrip for your flight to Serengeti National Park which departs around 7 am and arrive at around 10 am. Meet our guide and go for a game drive in Northern Mara. Serengeti National Park is famed for the annual wildebeest migration of over 1.5 million wildebeests and hundred thousands of zebras on annual journey in search for water and green pasture.

Witness an actual survival of the fittest as these animals plunge through crocodile-infested waters. The wildebeest produces more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000 km (600 mil) trek begins again.

Day 3 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)

After breakfast, we depart for Serengeti North for a game viewing experience following the Great Migration. River crossings at Kigatende starts in August as the mega herd settles into the area. Between August – October, game viewing is at its best with river crossings pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and subsequent fresh grasses.

You can also take part in an optional hot air balloon flight.

Day 4 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)

After breakfast, we proceed for a full day game viewing and following the Great Migration at Mara Area. Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high at the Wagakuria area, the key feature is the Mara River and there is a great chance to see the herds across the Mara River to the North on one day and back south a few days later.

Note: It can be very difficult to witness crossing and is sometimes a matter of luck. A herd can be seen next to river and only decide to cross a couple of days later. This area is a stunning region with kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation and open plains, similar of Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.

Day 5 – Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)

After breakfast at your camp, we head to Serengeti Central. The Serengeti is the oldest and most popular national park in Tanzania, an a world heritage site. The park is famed for its annual migration, with over six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers an amazing game-viewing in Africa; the great herds of buffalo, small groups of elephant and giraffes, and thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.

Day 6 -7 – Serengeti Central (Central Seronera)

 After breakfast, we head to the Central Serengeti for full day game drive in Central Serengeti. Apart from the large mammals, Serengeti is also home to gaudy agama lizards, rock hyraxes scuffling around the surfaces of the park’s isolated granite koppies. Wide varieties of dung beetle were found, and around 500 bird species have been recorded ranging from ostrich, bizarre secretary bird of the open grasslands, to the black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills.

Day 8 – Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After breakfast, we head to Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive inside the crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. As you explore the crater, you will enjoy sighting of several animals including buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs and several bird species.

Accommodation: Serian Tarangire Camp 

Day 9 – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, proceed for a full day game drive in Tarangire National Park located slightly off the main safari route. Tarangire is a lovely quiet park in Northern Tanzania’s most famous for its elephant migration, and birding safari with a quiet atmosphere.

Day 10 – Back to Arusha

After breakfast, we head back to Arusha with a stopover at the market. You will be dropped off either at your hotel or at the airport for your flight back home bringing your Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Safari to an end.
