Detailed itinerary of 4 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking in Rwanda
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali City. Tucked between steep valley and thickly forested ridges, the city is a gateway to Rwanda’s National Parks, there is much to discover here before escaping to the jungle, a pulsing party scene, and places of quiet reflection to better understand the country’s past, notably at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a haunting tribute to the lives lost in the 1994 atrocities.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, you will meet your guide and embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park, a primate haven – home to 13 primate species including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys. Along the way you will enjoy lunch and when you arrive in the park, you will go for a guided Canopy Walk.
Suspended above a ravine in the lush montane rainforest of Nyungwe Forest, the canopy walkway provides an exhilarating perspective on the ancient treetops and wildlife. The 160m long and 70m high Suspension Bridge is accessible as part of a guided tour along the Igishigishigi trail.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking – Transfer to Lake Kivu
Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking and all the safety measures. Head into the forests of Nyungwe looking for chimpanzees led by a senior ranger guide, during the trek lookout for other primates including black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons and several bird species.
When you locate the chimpanzees, you will be allowed to spend only one hour in their presence watching them play from on tree to another, pick fruits and groom each other. Trek back to the lodge for lunch, checkout and embark on a journey to the beautiful Lake Kivu, one of the East Africa’s most spectacular lakes, it has golden beaches and lush islands that rise from the water like the eyes of a curious hippos, while fishermen drop their nets into the lake’s rich, emerald depths.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking – Departure
Wake up early and be driven to Kinigi, Musanze. Head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking. A senior ranger guide will take through rules and regulations to follow while in presence of the gorillas and how to behave, head to the starting point and head into the forests looking for mountain gorillas.
The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend only one hour in their presence watching them play, feed and groom. Later trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and embark on a journey to Kigali where you will be dropped off either at your hotel or at the airport to catch your flight back home,
