This Kenya-Uganda combined safari starts from Uganda’s capital Kampala then fly to Kenya using Jomo Kenyatta International airport in Nairobi where it also ends.

Detailed itinerary of 5 days Maasai Mara and mountain gorilla safari

Day 1: pickup and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

On the first day of 5 days Maasai Mara and mountain gorilla safari you will be picked up from hotel in Kampala after your breakfast, he will give you a short safari briefing then set off on a journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park a home to the world’s half and biggest population of mountain gorillas found in the southwestern region of Uganda.

On your way you will enjoy watching the local people going on with their daily activities, have a stopover at the equator monument for pictures and craft shops for souvenir shopping, another stopover will be made in Mbarara for lunch then proceed to the park. As you approach the park you will enjoy the scenic views of the mountains, tropical rainforests and bamboo forests, when you arrive in the park, you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: mountain gorilla trekking experience

Wake up early for breakfast then head to the park’s headquarters for a briefing experience about mountain gorilla trekking which is conducted by a ranger guide then be assigned a gorilla group then trek into forests of Bwindi looking for mountain gorillas. As you trek through the forests of Bwindi you will have an opportunity to watch other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons, many birds and various species of trees. With the help of a guide you will look for the gorillas on an excursion which takes from 2 – 8 hours, when you find the gorillas you will be allowed to stay in the presence for one hour observing the gorillas and their behavior as they feed their babies, pick fruits and leaves and take memorable pictures with flashlight off. After the experience you will trek back to the park’s headquarters to be awarded with the trekking certificates then head back to your lodge, in the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight at your lodge.

Day 3: fly to Maasai Mara national reserve

After morning breakfast at your lodge, you will checkout and set off on a drive to Kihihi airstrip to catch your domestic flight to Entebbe airport, when you arrive at Entebbe airport you will catch another flight to Maasai Mara national reserve using Maasai Mara Serena Airstrip. On your arrival at the airstrip you will be picked up by your safari guide and drive to your camp /lodge, have lunch after checking in and rest for a while. In the evening you will head to the reserve for an evening game drive. with a help of a spot light you will be able to watch many animals such as lions, leopards, wildebeests, buffaloes, cheetahs, rhinos, zebras and many more. After the experience you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: full day in Maasai Mara national reserve

Wake up for breakfast and head to the reserve for a full day game drive together with your packed lunch, on this full day game drive you will have ample time to explore the various regions of Maasai Mara national reserve. On this experience you will watch a number of animals inhabiting in savannah plains of the reserve such as Maasai giraffes, elands, zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, cheetahs, leopards, lions, elephants, bat-eared fox, jackals and many more.

At lunch you will have picnic lunch set in the wilderness of the reserve then go for another game drive, at the end of the experience you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: morning game drive and transfer back to Nairobi

On the last day of 5 days Maasai Mara and Mountain gorilla safari you will have early morning breakfast, checkout and head to the reserve for an en-route game drive as you exit the reserve heading back to Nairobi. When you arrive in Nairobi, you will have lunch then be dropped off either at your hotel or at the airport for your departure flight back home.
