Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Departure from Kigali to Gisozi genocide memorial center

On the 1st day of the 5 days Masai Mara and mountain gorilla safari you are to be picked from the airport upon you arrival, meet your safari driver who is a representative of Focus East Africa Tours and head to Kigali city. Depending on the time of arrival you are to have a short city tour visiting Gisozi Memorial center to learn more about the 1994 Rwanda genocide which resulted into the death of 800,000 Rwandese. After the city tour you are to have lunch and then embark on a drive heading to volcanoes national park, upon your arrival you are to check into your lodge and in the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

On the 2nd day of 5 days Masai Mara and mountain gorilla safari you are to do mountain gorilla trekking in the forests of Volcanoes national park, after a mouthwatering breakfast at your lodge, meet your safari and head to the park. Once in the park you will go for a briefing session on which mountain gorilla tracking guidelines and rules will be read to you, hire a porter and be assign a mountain gorilla group to trek. Then you will start your mountain gorilla trekking in search for mountain gorillas, this experience takes about 3-8 hours depending on the movement and the location of mountain gorilla group you are trekking. When you find mountain gorillas you are to spend one hour in the presence of mountain gorillas, take pictures as long as your flashlight is off and observing the behavior of the gorillas. After one hour, you are to trek back to the park’s headquarters and then return to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Fly to Kenya

On the 3rd day of 5 days Masai Mara and mountain gorilla safari you are to fly to Kenya and transfer to Masai Mara national reserve, after morning breakfast at your lodge you will meet your safari driver and head to Kigali international airport for your flight to Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta international airport. On arrival you will have lunch at any lodge and then embark on a drive to Masai Mara national reserve, once in the park you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve

On the 5th day of the 5 days Masai Mara and mountain gorilla safari you are to have a full day game drive in the endless plains of Masai Mara national reserve, after morning breakfast you will head to the reserve for a game drive on which you will enjoy amazing sights of many animals such as Lions, Elephants, Cheetah, Buffaloes, Rhinos, Leopards, Maasai giraffes, zebras, Elands and many more. At lunch you will either have picnic lunch or drive back to your lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you return back to your lodge for another game drive spotting many animals. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Nairobi and have a city tour

On the 5th day of the 5 days Masai Mara and mountain gorilla safari you are to transfer to Nairobi city, have a city tour and the be dropped off, after early morning breakfast you will checkout of your lodge and embark on your journey back to Nairobi. Once in Nairobi you will go for a city tour visiting amazing sites in Nairobi such as Elephants orphanage, David Sheldrick wildlife trust, giraffe center, markets and many more.
