Detailed Itinerary of 7 Days: Highlights of Tanzania Safari

Day 1: Tarangire National Park

You will be collected from your hotel in Arusha after breakfast or at Kilimanjaro International Airport upon arrival. After a safari briefing, drive to Tarangire National Park, which is a journey of approximately 2 hours.

The scenic Tarangire National Park is one of the most stunning parks in Tanzania, with a landscape dotted with giant baobab trees, bush savannah, and seasonal marshes, and is home to large herds of elephants.

From the open roof of your safari vehicle, you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. In the afternoon, you will leave the park and drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Spend a full day on game drives exploring the beautiful Tarangire National Park.

During the dry seasons, many animals congregate along the Tarangire River to quench their thirst. The river is an excellent spot to observe their behavior up close.

Since you spend the whole day in the park, you have enough time to explore more remote corners of Tarangire National Park, enjoying the big and small moments of the safari: from majestic lions and elegant giraffes to busy dung beetles and everything in between.

Your guide shall share his in-depth knowledge about wildlife and ecosystems with you. You may be surprised how much you have seen and learned on only your second day of safari. At sunset, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will journey towards the South Serengeti, arriving in time for lunch at your lodge. Serengeti National Park is the most popular safari destination in Tanzania, renowned for its diversity of habitats and landscapes – short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps and lakes.

The Serengeti is famous for the yearly migration when hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras trek to find fresh grass and water.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

Spend the entire day exploring Serengeti National Park; the areas you will visit will depend upon where the migrating herds are. Usually, predators follow closely behind the trekking animals and include lions, leopards (in the acacia trees), and cheetahs.

During the short rainy season in November and December, the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return up north.

As the migration is completely dependent on the yearly rainfall, the location of the herds may vary from year to year, but your guide will know where to locate the animals and where to see them best.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Your Tanzania Safari journey continues to Ngorongoro Crater. After breakfast, exit the park and, with an en-route game drive, leave Serengeti in the early afternoon for Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As soon as you reach the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, you will see the giant caldera below – a breathtaking view.

You will leave the highlands and go for a walk in the coffee plantation to learn more about the cultivation and processing of coffee.
