Kibale Forest is Africa’s primate capital hosting the largest concentration of chimpanzees on the continent and other 12 primate species including black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons among others. The park is dominated by a tropical rainforest covering an area of 795 square kilometres. This rainforest is an extension of the forests found in Central Africa. Kibale Forest National Park is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees and 12 other primate species, 60 mammals and over 375 species of birds. The forest is also home to forest elephants, leopards, and lions which normally come to the forest from Queen Elizabeth National Park.
This safari offers you an intimate encounter with chimpanzees for one hour, observe their behaviour and characteristics which are similar to humans and take amazing pictures.

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park – Walk at the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative – your driver guide and after a short briefing about the safari. You will start a 4-5 hours journey to Kibale Forest National Park, in western Uganda. Along the way you will have a stop in Fort Port for lunch and if time allows, take a guided walk to the “Amabere ga nyina mwiru caves”, the King (Omukama’s palace) and the royal tombs in Karambi.
During your journey, you will be impressed by the beautiful sights of the crater lakes and the Rwenzori Mountains. Once you arrive at the park you will be taken your safari lodge and later go for a guided walk in Bigodi swamp.The Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary is one of the best places in Uganda to see birds, some of the birds to lookout for include Papyrus Gonolek, Hornbills, Weaver birds, Waxbills, Kingfishers, Cuckoos, Flycatchers and the Great Blue Turaco among others. The swamp hosts several primate species like black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons which you will see during the nature walk.
Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience
Wake up early for breakfast in preparation for a long day of adventure in Kibale Forest, your driver will transfer you to the briefing point where you will be taken through rules and regulations to follow on this exciting primate experience. After the registration, you will be allocated a chimpanzee community to trek. Your ranger guide will lead you on the trek in search of these great apes, the trek takes approximately 2 to 5 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their night.
With the help of a ranger guide, you will be able to locate the chimpanzee troop as you follow their sounds. Spend one hour with the chimpanzees, watching them in their natural habitat as they swing from the braches, feed, play and rest. In addition to chimpanzees, the trek will expose you to other primates calling the park home including pottos, Grevy Vervet monkeys, baboons, colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, grey cheeked managabey, blue monkeys and Red Tailed monkeys among others.
Trek back to the park headquarters where you will pick your chimpanzee trekking certificates. In the afternoon, you will either go back to Bigodi Swamp for a guided walk or the local community for a coffee experience, banana beer making, basket making and visit a traditional healer.

Have a leisure breakfast at your lodge, check out of your lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara and a stop at the Equator monument in Kayabwe for pictures. Your guide will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your return flight back home or to your next destination.
