Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas with about 20 habituated gorilla families. On this safari you will trek one of these families in four of the gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi Forest.
Kibale Forest National Park crowned the Primate Capital of Africa is home to 13 primate species including a huge population of chimpanzees, the biggest population in the world.

Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trek
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park
Our guide from Focus East Africa Tours will pick you up from the airport upon arrival and embark on a journey to Kibale National Park, the journey is approximately 4 to 5 hours driving through the beautiful countryside and a stop at Fort Portal City for lunch and then go for a city tour visiting the Oyo’s palace to learn about the kingdom, its younger rule and several cultural experiences and enjoy magnificent views of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and visiting the Bigodi Swamp
Wake up early for breakfast, join your guide and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the chimpanzees. With other visitors you will enter into the forest looking for chimpanzees on a trek of 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzee troop.
Once locating these playful primates, you will spend one hour watching them play, feed and groom each other. You are free to take as many photos and videos as you wish. After this incredible experience, trek back to the park headquarters to meet your driver-guide and head to the lodge for lunch and short rest.
In the evening you will go for a nature walk along the Bigodi Swamp were you will spot more of the 13 primates the area is famous for as well as a collection of birds.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi National park – Nature Walk
After a delicious breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park where the rare tree climbing lions are common.
Enjoy enroute lunch and when you arrive in the park, you will enjoy a nature walk around the lodge. Have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking – Batwa Pygmies visit
Wake up early for breakfast, then wait for the drive to take you to the park office for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the gorillas as well as in the forest. In groups of 8 people you will be assigned one of the habituated gorilla families to trek depending on the gorilla sector you are tracking.
With an armed ranger guide, head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and were they spent their previous night. Once you locate the troop, you will have one hour of watching the gorillas go on with their life in the forest, watch females groom their babies, breastfeeding them and the silverback keeping an eye on his group. You are free to take photos as long as your flashlight is off.

After the one hour has elapsed, you will go back to the starting point where our guide will be waiting to take you to your lodge for lunch and freshening up. Later in the evening, you will go to visit the Batwa Pygmy Community. The Batwa pygmies lived in Bwindi Forest until they were forcefully evicted, on your visit you will be entertained by local dances and drama, visit the medicine man among others.

Day 5: Departure
Today is the last day of your 5 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trek, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then check out of your lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara. You will be dropped off at the dropped off at the airport for your flight back home.
