10 days Rwanda and Kenya safari is a combined safari taking you on a visit to Rwanda and Kenya some of the best wildlife destinations on the African continent, on this safari of 10 days of exploration you are to visit Kigali city and Volcanoes national park a home to the endangered mountain gorillas and one best of the destinations in the world for gorilla trekking safaris in Rwanda. In Kenya you are going to visit Maasai Mara national reserve the best wildlife destination in the world and a home to the Big Five “lion, leopards, rhinos, cape buffaloes and elephants” and hosts the annual Great wildebeest migration. Amboseli national park a home to the large herds of elephants and magnificent back drop of Mountain Kilimanjaro the tallest mountain on the African continent is another destination to visit.

Detailed itinerary of 10 days Rwanda and Kenya safari

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our representative. After a warm welcome and a short briefing about what to expect on the safari  you be transferred to your Hotel in Kigali.

Day 2:  Kigali City Tour – Drive to Volcanoes Park

After breakfast, you will checkout of your hotel and head to Kigali city for a city tour, the history of Kigali dates about 100 year back, the city was initially founded in 1907 as a German settlement and it become a city in 19962 when Rwanda was granted its independence replacing the colonial seat of Power in Butare .

During the city tour, you will visit the Kandt Museum where you will see old Kigali and the craft pieces, visit the genocide memorial site where you will learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to 1994 genocide. You will also learn about other genocides and how this Rwanda dealt with that horrific past.

You will have lunch in Kigali, later depart Kigali and drive to Ruhengeri which is approximately 2.5 hours arriving in the early evening at Volcanoes national park. check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking day – Evening drive back to Kigali

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park for the mind blowing mountain gorilla trekking, you will have briefing at the park’s headquarters where you will also be grouped into 8 people and be assigned a gorilla group to trek.

With the guidance of armed rangers and guides, you will hike into the forests of Volcanoes national park looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes about 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent the previous night. Once you find the gorillas, you will enjoy watching their huge size, observe their behavior, watch them groom each other and baby gorillas swinging on tree branches. You can also taking amazing pictures, after one hour you will trek back to the park’s headquarters where you will meet your driver and head back to your lodge for lunch. After lunch you will checkout and drive back to Kigali past the foothills of the volcanoes, coffee, tea and banana plantations. When you arrive in Kigali, you will check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Fly to Nairobi

After breakfast, you will checkout of your hotel and be transferred to Kigali International airport for a flight to Nairobi. Upon landing at Jomo Kenyatta International airport you will be picked up by safari guide and transfer to your hotel in Nairobi for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Drive Nairobi – Amboseli

After breakfast, you will checkout of your hotel and drive to Amboseli national park – a home for large herds of elephants and the magnificent back drop of Mountain Kilimanjaro. You will arrive in the park in afternoon – time for lunch which you have after checking into your lodge and in the afternoon you will go for a game drive on which you will enjoy sightings of large herds of elephants, cape buffaloes, elands, gazelles, giraffes among others. In the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6:  full day game drive in Amboseli

Have early breakfast and transfer to the park for a full day game drive on morning and afternoon game drive with picnic lunch, during this day you will immensely explore the plains of Amboseli national park while enjoying views of the snowcapped Mountain Kilimanjaro the tallest mountain in Africa.

During the game drive, you will be able to enjoy spotting many animals such as cape buffaloes, herds of elephants, hyrax, lesser kudus, giraffes, dik-dik, wild dogs among others. You will have picnic lunch and in the afternoon go for another game drive exploring the park more, then head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Drive Amboseli – Lake Nakuru

After early breakfast, you will depart Amboseli for Lake Nakuru national park with packed lunch, you will arrive in Lake Nakuru in the afternoon and go for a boat ride on Lake Nakuru for views of large numbers of pink flamingoes and animals such as rhinos and elephants on the shores of the lake. In the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Drive Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara

After breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge and embark on a drive to Maasai Mara national reserve. Along the way you will drive past Mount Longonot and via Narok Town arriving in time for lunch at the lodge, in the afternoon you will go for a game drive in the endless plains of Maasai Mara. In the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: full day game drive

Have early breakfast and transfer to the reserve for a full day game drive on morning and late afternoon game drives in the endless plains enjoying the spectacular scenery and spot diverse wildlife. During the game drives in maasai mara you explore the reserve and spot abundant wildlife including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, wildebeests, elands, gazelles among others. You will have picnic lunch along Mara River and go for another exploration expedition. In the evening you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10:  Departure

After breakfast you will checkout of the park with en-route game drive to drive, you will have lunch along the way, when you arrive in Nairobi, you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back home.
