Detailed itinerary of 11 days Kenya wildlife safari

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Amboseli national park

Upon arrival you will be picked from the airport or Nairobi hotel  at 0730hrs, your safari guide will give a short safari briefing and transfer to Amboseli national park. Along the way you will enjoy magnificent view of Konza Savannah plains, arrive in Amboseli in time for lunch at your lodge.

After short rest, you will depart for an afternoon game drive on which you will enjoy spectacular views of the backdrop of Kilimanjaro view and many animals such as large herds of elephants. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Amboseli national park

Today you will have a full day game drive with picnic lunch, wake up early for breakfast and head to the park for a full day of exploring the plains of Amboseli. You will enjoy extensive game drive within the park and sightings of many animals, you will visit the observation hill located in the area which is the best spot elephants and buffaloes wallowing in the muddy area. In the evening you will enjoy the view of Mount Kilimanjaro when the weather is clear.

Day 3: Transfer to Mount Kenya

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, checkout of your lodge and embark on a journey to Mount Kenya with en-route lunch. Continue to Mount Kenya arriving in late afternoon, check in for dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Samburu national reserve

After breakfast you will transfer north to Samburu national reserve arriving in time for lunch at your lodge and in the afternoon you will go for an afternoon game drive. On the game drive you will explore the diverse and unique species found in the park, Samburu national reserve is known for its unique animals referred to as the Samburu Special Five “Gravy zebras, reticulated giraffes, Somali giraffe, Somali Ostrich and Generuk”.

Day 5: Samburu national reserve

Today you will have a full day game drive in Samburu national reserve with picnic lunch, Samburu region is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds which depend on the season of the year and its red volcanic soil. The reserve is also composed of rock outcroppings contracting against the dense woodland vegetation along the banks of Ewaso Nyiro River the permanent water source that feeds the reserve and its ecosystem.

During the game drive, you will explore the reserve and spot a variety of wildlife including the Samburu special Five, you will also visit the Samburu people who are cousins to the Maasai people and get a deeper insight in their distinct cultural traditions. Return back to the camp/lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: transfer to sweetwater’s

After breakfast, you will checkout and depart to Sweetwater’s – a huge private ranch which was once a private propertu of the famed Saudi Arabian multi-millionaire Adnan Kashoggi, you then visit the chimpanzee sanctuary – a charming haven to chimpanzees established by Jane Gonndall Institute to provide sanctuary to orphaned chimps. This sanctuary is the only place in Kenya where chimpanzees can be found, the sanctuary is also a habitat to over 40 species of black rhinos.

Day 7: Transfer to Thomson’s Falls

After breakfast, you will descend slowly with scenic sightings of Aberdare national park to Nyahurururu area, arrive in time for lunch at the resort/ lodge and in the afternoon you head for an adventure exploring the enchanting waterfalls. The falls attract colorful birds and provide photographic opportunities, a nature trail leading to the base of the falls and the gorge is a safe haven for the endangered colobus monkeys, baboons and small animals. The Thompson falls is an attraction site accessible maternity for elephants that migrate through Rumuruti elephant’s corridors from the slopes of Mount Kenya.

Day 8: transfer to Masai Mara

After breakfast, you will check out and depart for Masai Mara national reserve, along the way you will descend down the Rift Valley floor as you head to the reserve, you will have a stopover in Narok for lunch and interaction with the local people and at the rift valley view point for amazing views of the rift valley escarpments.

When you arrive in Masai Mara, you will go for an afternoon game drive enjoy sightings for several species of animals including the Big Five “Lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, rhinos and elephants”. Masai Mara national reserve is an extension of Serengeti national park in Tanzania forming the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem – the oldest ecosystems in the world. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9 & 10:  Masai Mara national reserve

Have early and head to Masai Mara for a lifetime sunrise game drive with a great chance of spotting predators on a hunt, return to the lodge for breakfast then head to the heart of Masai Mara national reserve for exploring the vast grassland plains and enjoy sightings of animals such as zebras, giraffes, gazelles and topis and the wildebeest migration if you visit in the right time of the year (July – October). Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: transfer and drop off Nairobi

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and with en-route game drive you will depart Masai Mara national reserve for Nairobi, you will be dropped off at your hotel or Airport.
