Maasai Mara Jungle

Maasai Mara Jungle

Maasai Mara jungle

Maasai Mara jungle (Maasai Mara jungle) is where gold meets silver! Named after the locals who live in the reserve. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is famous with an exceptional number of big cats (lions, leopards, and cheetahs) and the largest wildlife migration on the planet, called the wildebeest migration. From July to October, millions of wildebeest cross to the mighty Maasai Mara National Reserve. This is the greatest time to visit the reserve and experience the best wildlife experience.

The Maasai Mara jungle (masai mara jungle)  forms the great Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, which is one of the oldest ecosystems on planet Earth. Located inside the Maasai land, the Mara jungle is one of the key habitats of the attractions at the reserve.

The reserve ecosystem has the best nutritious grass that not only attracts wildlife but is also very scenic for tourist views. The open savannahs that are dotted with Balanites trees give the scenic beauty of the landscape, combined with the steep-sided escarpments of the Great Rift Valley features and the Mara River.

Maasai Mara Jungle

Covering an area of around 1,510 square kilometers, the Maasai Mara jungle has diversified vegetation that is distributed across the reserve from open savannah grassland to the thick forests at the shores of the Mara River.

The Mara-Serengeti ecosystem covers over 30,000 square kilometers that are covered by savannah grassland running from the Maasai Mara National Reserve to the northern part of Tanzania in Serengeti National Park. The Maasai Mara jungle keeps changing as the soil patterns change from the far North of the Maasai Mara to the Southern part as one approaches the shores of Lake Victoria.

The Maasai Mara jungle is subdivided into conservancies that are managed by locals within the park. It’s only the Maasai Mara in Kenya that the management of the reserve is done by locals, as the government oversees the management for clear accountability.

The largest conservancy is the Mara Triangle that is found in the center of the reserve, running towards the mighty Mara River. This conservancy has a varied landscape with both grass and thickets, as the soil is good loam soil formed out of volcanic activity. The current challenge with the Maasai  Mara Triangle conservancy is accommodation, as the only luxury accommodation is Mara Serena Lodge.

Guests enjoy being around this conservancy, especially during the migration of the wildebeest. Other animals viewed are lions, leopards, zebras, hyenas, and others. Wildlife viewing is excellent at this conservancy since the wildlife is more permanent.

Another conservancy that forms the Maasai Mara ecosystem is Mara North conservancy that occupies more than 30,000 hectares of land. The conservancy is famous with the Leopard Gorge, where the leopards give birth. It is in this area where leopards are easily seen at all times. To the East, you find the Olare Conservancy, which is famous for its big cats along with large herds of African Elephants.

To the East of Olare Motorogi Conservancy lies Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a home of large numbers of Giraffes, Elephants, and wildebeest. The Maasai Mara jungle is a birding paradise, especially in Mara Naboisho conservancy that homes a rare bird species that cannot be seen anywhere. For example, the Pygmy Falcon, White-headed Buffalo-weaver, Bush pipits, White-crowned Shrike, and many more.

The Maasai Mara remains one of the best game viewing destinations not only in Kenya but in Africa at large. The jungles give your true African wildlife experience as you feel the fresh air along with the African sunshine.
